Everblue and Roxbury Community College Advance Green Jobs Training

Overview:

Everblue, a leader in energy efficiency training, has partnered with Roxbury Community College (RCC) to deliver the Energy Auditor Pre-Apprenticeship Program, funded by the Massachusetts Green Jobs Workforce Grant.

This initiative aims to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge to pursue successful careers in energy efficiency and sustainability, specifically as home energy auditors. A home energy auditor conducts comprehensive assessments of residential properties to evaluate energy use, identify areas of energy waste, and recommend improvements that can enhance energy efficiency.

The program provides a comprehensive learning experience, covering energy efficiency principles, home performance diagnostics, and building science. Delivered over four weeks with a hybrid approach that includes online self-paced coursework, in-classroom sessions, and field training, the program is designed to prepare individuals for opportunities in the growing green technology sector, offering valuable industry-recognized certifications.

Challenge: Limited access to hands-on training and clean energy career pathways in underserved communities, despite growing demand for energy efficiency professionals.   Solution: Everblue and Roxbury Community College launched the Energy Auditor Pre-Apprenticeship Program with hybrid clean energy training, industry certifications, and job placement support.   Impact: Multiple cohorts graduated, industry-recognized credentials earned, employer connections established, and workforce development advanced in the clean energy sector.

Participant Experience

Arlicia Brown, a program participant, shared her thoughts on the experience:
“The Energy Auditing Program was an incredibly rewarding experience. What truly defined this class was its celebration of diversity and its holistic approach to learning—engaging body, mind, and spirit. The care and support shared among classmates and from the instructor created an environment where everyone worked toward a shared goal of mastering the material. Despite our different backgrounds and cultures, what stood out the most was our shared love for humanity.”

Continued Growth

This program continues to expand, with additional cohorts scheduled to meet the increasing demand for skilled professionals in energy efficiency. By ensuring students gain a strong foundation in energy-saving technologies and sustainable building practices, Everblue and RCC are preparing tomorrow’s workforce. As they continue to collaborate, they are making significant strides toward building a sustainable workforce in Massachusetts, supporting the state’s efforts to foster a greener, more energy-efficient future.

Conclusion

Through this partnership, Everblue and RCC are delivering impactful green jobs training that helps students from a wide range of experiences and perspectives access meaningful employment in the clean energy sector.
