Everblue, a leading provider of energy efficiency training and workforce solutions, has partnered with the Building Performance Association (BPA) to serve as the primary Related Technical Instruction (RTI) provider for BPA’s newly announced federally approved apprenticeship program in Massachusetts. The program, launching in early 2026, will prepare the next generation of energy efficiency professionals across Weatherization Technician and Energy Auditor / Energy Specialist tracks.
Supported by funding from E4TheFuture, Inc., the apprenticeship program aims to expand career pathways in energy efficiency, advance business growth and increase diversity in the clean energy workforce. Registered Apprenticeship Programs (RAPs) like this one provide employers with a pipeline of skilled workers while offering apprentices hands-on experience, competitive wages and nationally recognized credentials. Massachusetts employers hiring apprentices may qualify for tax credits of up to $4,800 or 50% of wages per qualifying apprentice.
Everblue’s RTI program spans one year and is designed to run alongside on-the-job training. Courses are available online and self-paced, allowing apprentices to learn around their work schedules and geographic locations. The training complements practical workforce experience, reinforcing critical skills for successful job performance.
The Weatherization Technician track includes courses such as Asbestos Awareness, BPI Building Science Principles, Introduction to ASHRAE 62.2, OSHA 10 & 30 Construction Safety, Pressure Diagnostics, Retrofit Installer Technician / Crew Leader, Customer Service, Weatherization 101 and more.
The Energy Specialist track features courses including BPI Building Analyst Technician, BPI Building Analyst Professional, HEP Energy Auditor, HEP Quality Control Inspector, Solar PV Associate, RESNET HERS Rater, Weatherization Finance and additional advanced offerings.
Apprentices can combine the two tracks for a more comprehensive learning experience, with credit given for overlapping content. Each RTI program delivers over 144 hours of online training.
“Multifamily and residential energy efficiency are critical to building a sustainable future,” said Chris Sullivan, apprenticeships manager at Everblue. “By providing accessible, flexible training that complements on-the-job experience, we’re helping apprentices build the skills needed to succeed while giving employers the talent pipeline they need to grow their businesses.”
A pilot of the Massachusetts apprenticeship program is expected to launch early in 2026. Employers and prospective apprentices can learn more at https://building-performance.org/massachusetts-rap/ or contact Xavier Walter, BPA’s Director of Outreach.
